Sometimes kids tell me they don't want to apply to the UW because it's "too big." And I tell them this: Your classes don't have 35,000 people in them. You have some sections that are big freshman year, but most of my upper level courses had no more than 20-30 students. You find your own village at the U and it does not seem huge at all. The geographic area of the school is not as big as some of the "small" schools. That's what I loved about UW: I never felt overwhelmed by scale and got all the advantages of a "big" school. - Susan J. Noonan, 75
